Science of Reading Associate Professor, PhD Candidate
Bethany is a former intermediate teacher and literacy specialist with 9 years of certificated experience in public schools, which includes certification in multilingual education. She is currently an Associate Program Director and Professor at City University of Seattle, where she revised all of the literacy courses to reflect the IDA Knowledge and Practice Standards (KPS). As a result, three of City U’s literacy programs have received IDA Accreditation, a globally recognized standard for programs that align with ‘Science of Reading’ research. City University Seattle is the only certified Science of Reading program within a Washington State College or University.
Bethany leads the development of literacy instruction, training, progress monitoring, and public resources to ensure fidelity and efficacy. She is also a Vice President of The Reading League Washington and an Ed.D. candidate in the Reading Science Doctoral Program at Mount Saint Joseph University. Her mission is to ensure that all Washington State pre-service and in-service teachers are fully prepared to teach every student with effective, research-based literacy instruction.
